Positive character of relations between Ukraine and Cuba should help achieve feasible results. Volodymyr Lytvyn,
Chairman of The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine,
made this statement on Friday, meeting Bruno Eduardo Rodriguez Parrilla, Minister of Foreign Affairs
of the Republic
of Cuba.
V.Lytvyn expressed his gratitude to the Minister for the recreation facilities offered by Cuba for the Ukrainian children who suffered from the Chornobyl disaster. According to the Head of the Parliament, the visit of the Minister of Foreign Affairs is of great importance, as it should resume the inter-state dialogue and "boost the bilateral relations."
The Chairman of The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine declared, "Ukraine is interested in the development of inter-parliamentary liaison." He invited the President of the National Assembly of People´s Power of the Republic of Cuba to make an official visit to Ukraine.
In his turn, on behalf of the President of the National Assembly of People´s Power of the Republic of Cuba, the Minister invited the Chairman of The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine to make a visit to Cuba.
Bruno Eduardo Rodriguez Parrilla stated that it was a great honour for him to visit Ukraine. He highly appreciated the importance of the Ukrainian Parliament in the facilitation of inter-state liaison. "Relations with Ukraine are of priority for Cuba, as our nations have established friendly connections," he declared. "Ukraine trusted Cuba to provide health care for the Ukrainian children."
The Minister commented on the close personal and cultural connections between the families of Ukraine and Cuba. "Presence of Ukraine is felt in all aspects," he stated.
The Minister believes that economic connections between the countries can grow: "We can develop economic relations, as they are rather low-standard." He deems necessary to develop cooperation in
the medical sphere, during the common production of medicine and vaccines.
The Parties called for boosting cooperation in the humanitarian sphere, and in the sector of investments and tourism. "Pragmatic approach will govern our relations," the Chairman of The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine stressed.
V.Lytvyn deems necessary to launch a direct flight between Kyiv and Havana, as "time is critical for businesspeople." He calls for extending the normative base of bilateral relations, and addressed the Minister with a request to facilitate ratification of the agreement on double tax prevention.
The Parties agreed about the role of parliaments in the search for new ways and forms of inter-state cooperation.
